After creating a possible plan we were given the chance to change an aspect of the shipping container to improve the lighting. When thinking about this I was wondering if there was a possible way to work out the slight problems with the layout of the house. The main problem was that I was uncomfortable with the fact that Philippe would not be able to access the bathroom. However I also wanted to bring light in from all angles into the smaller rooms (bathroom and bedroom) and by moving up that part of the container (the end with bathroom and bedroom) I could bring in light from all around without losing any privacy. I have decided to choose the triangles idea for the feature window wall as it is simple yet brings in a lot of light. Also it doesn't take up all of the wall which will not restrict furniture choices or positioning as much. I have made a fifth 1:50 cardboard model without the North wall to try out the feature wall idea on. After looking at other interesting windows on real buildings I took the designs that I found the most interesting and I have applied these onto the missing wall to see the light they bring in and the patterns they would create. After the previous two models I have combined the advantages that I feel were the strongest from them and created a final idea that I hope makes the most of the space and uses this circular walk round the house. - The bedroom is a little larger, and consequently the bathroom is smaller
- No step down from living area to bedroom - Full walk round house possible - Still wheelchair friendly - North light for painting - Raised sofa area could always be used for another use if the need arises - Bedroom door moved further to the West wall creating more kitchen space - Front door leads onto ground surface, no step up |
